2What is cPanel?

cPanel (Control panel) is a hosting account manager where you can login and easily manage many aspects of your hosting account.

Some features of cPanel are:

Files - File Manager allows you to manage all files in your account, backup wizard, view disk-space usage.

Mail - Add/edit/delete email accounts, mail forwarders and auto responders.

and much more.

3What is the difference between Sub, Parked and Addon domain names?
Sub Domain

A sub domain name can be a different website/page with its own unique content, but there is no new domain name. Instead, you use an existing domain name and add a new sub name in front of it. A sub domain name example can look like the following: http://blog.mydomain.com.au, http://help.mydomain.com.au (assuming you already host http://mydomain.com.au).

Parked Domain

A parked domain is NOT a unique website. Instead, it is a masked forward to the primary domain name of your hosting account, much like a website alias. Parked domains are commonly used when:

  • You need a place to park a domain for which you do not have a website.
  • You have more than one domain that should lead/point to your primary domain name.
  • You have common misspellings of your domain name that you have registered.
Addon Domain

An addon domain is a second website, with its own unique content. This type of domain does require you to register the new domain name before you can host it. Therefore, if you want to host www.otherdomain.com.au under the same account this could be a solution, though first make sure you have enough disk-space and bandwidth allowance.

4What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP email accounts?
POP3

POP3 does not coordinate with the server. Messages marked as read/deleted/replied to in the mail application will not show up as such on the server. This means that future mail downloads with POP3 will show all messages as unread.

IMAP

IMAP email access coordinates between the server and your mail application. Messages that have been read/deleted/replied to will show up as such, both on the server and in the mail application.

5What is MySQL?

MySQL is a relational database management system based on SQL – Structured Query Language. MySQL databases are used for a wide range of purposes and applications.

6What is MariaDB?

MariaDB Server is one of the most popular database servers in the world. It’s made by the original developers of MySQL and guaranteed to stay open source. Notable users include Wikipedia, WordPress.com and Google.

Secure eHost server uses MariaDB.

MariaDB turns data into structured information in a wide array of applications, ranging from banking to websites. It is an enhanced, drop-in replacement for MySQL. MariaDB is used because it is fast, scalable and robust, with a rich ecosystem of storage engines, plugins and many other tools make it very versatile for a wide variety of use cases.

MariaDB is developed as open source software and as a relational database it provides an SQL interface for accessing data. The latest versions of MariaDB also include GIS and JSON features.

7What is the difference between a CMS & Static Website?

A CMS (Content Management System) website provides the user with built in administration tools to easily manage the web page content with very little or no understanding of web coding languages or third party software such as FTP. The user can manage their site using an Interent Browser and online connection 24x7. Wordpress is a good example of a CMS.

A static website is a hard coded web page that has no built in administrator tools and requiries knowledge of web coding and third party software such as FTP to manage the website. Updates are usually performed by the web developer when requested.
